Software I use, gadgets I love, and other things I recommend.

I get asked a lot about the things I use to build software, stay productive, or buy to fool myself into thinking I’m being productive when I’m really just procrastinating. Here’s a big list of all of my favorite stuff.

Coding Setup

  • 14” MacBook Pro, M1 Pro, 16GB RAM (2021)

I was using an Intel-based 16” MacBook Pro prior to this and the difference is night and day. I’ve never heard the fans turn on a single time, even under the incredibly heavy loads I put it through with our various launch simulations.

  • 34” OLED ROG Swift Monitor

It gives me a huge productivity boost with the larged curved screen. Best monitor I ever used.

Gaming Setup

  • Ryzen 9 7950X3D, RTX 4080 Super, 64GB DDR5

    It’s a beast. No comment.

  • ROG Claymore Mechanical Keyboard

They don’t make keyboards the way they used to. I buy these any time I see them go up for sale and keep them in storage in case I need parts or need to retire my main.

  • ROG Gadius II Mouse

My favorite mouse of all time. No other mouse has ever felt as good in my hand.

  • Crappy Chair

I really need to upgrade this. I’ve been using it since I was 16 and it’s starting to show its age.

Development tools

  • Visual Studio Code

I don’t care if it’s not as fancy as NeoVim I still love it.

  • GitHub Dark Default

I spent too much time on finding the perfect text editor theme. I can finally say that I very happy with my current choice.

Design

  • Excalidraw

Amazing piece of software for quickly sketching out ideas. I use it for everything from wireframes to diagrams to UI mockups.

  • Figma

We started using Figma as just a design tool but now it’s become our virtual whiteboard for the entire company. Never would have expected the collaboration features to be the real hook.
